On-demand lecture on science at the Tomuro Municipal Elementary School in Atsugi-city on September 16, 2011

The Technology Development Center of Fujita Corporation (Atsugi-city, Kanagawa Prefecture) gave an on-demand lecture on science experiments at the Tomuro Municipal Elementary School in Atsugi-city by four researchers. This lecture was undertaken as one of activities which the Education Committee of Atsugi-city promoted in order to raise students' interests on "Mathematics and Science", and Fujita Corporation supported the activities as one of Fujita's activities on "Construction Education".

The experiment was implemented for students to learn the mechanism of liquefaction by using plastic bottles and sand and to learn the structure of earthquake resistant buildings by using paper-crafts related to the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Through the experiments implemented by themselves, students showed much interest in the phenomena and observed the process with great curiosity. Especially, when a cap of a plastic bottle (which simulates a manhole) floated up by the mechanism of liquefaction, students gave glad cries.

In Fujita's "Construction Education", we have been offering construction site visiting for local residents, and the activity becomes established as well-known events for local elementary schools. We positively continue this activity in order for children to learn pleasure to make something and to nurture attention to environments.
