SOMA Solar Power plant has begins power generation. Model business for reconstruction following an earthquake

Fujita has established the "New Power Soma Limited Liability Company" in partnership with IHI Corp. and Nakamura doboku Corp. The solar power (Mega solar) Business has started on a 58,000m2 site at Koyo, SOMA city of Fukushima Pref. from October 2013.

This is a model project for effectively using disaster-stricken area under the "Feed in tariff" provisions of the Act on Special Measures Concerning Renewable energy, which was ratified in July 2012. A public proposal was taken to select an operator in August 2012 - the group of Fujita, IHI and Nakamura Doboku was selected on September. The construction work began in March 2013.

"New Power Soma Limited Liability Company", the business operator, took a contract to rent land from the city for 20 years with a view to commencing solar PV generation. The number of solar PV panels total 7994 pieces with a module capacity of 1998kw - providing power for 600 households. Business term is 20 years from Mar. 2013.

As part of the agreement, and in an effort to restore the disaster-stricken area a training center for the nation's folklore cultural assets called "SOMA NO UMAOI" will be constructed in the area.
