Three companies, Fujita Corporation (headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Yoji Okumura) of the Daiwa House Group, SoftBank Robotics Corp. (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Fumihide Tomizawa) and SoftBank Corp. (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Ken Miyauchi) conducted field testing in June 2018 on construction sites geared toward utilization of SpotMini, a four-legged walking robot by Boston Dynamics.

In these field tests, it was verified whether the SpotMini could be deployed on construction sites for operations such as patrolling, progress management and safety checks. Moving forward, preparations geared toward implementation beginning in summer 2019 are continuing, such as gathering data for practical construction site use of the SpotMini, development of modules to mount sensors and cameras, etc.

The construction industry is facing the shortage of labor force due to decline in new hiring workers at the same time as large numbers of elderly skilled workers and construction managers' retiring. It is not only new construction over the last few years, but also aging infrastructures where maintenance and renewal are expected, that require the promotion of innovative productivity improvements and operations efficiency at construction sites.

Using the results of the effectiveness of using robots on-site gathered during field tests, the collaboration of the three companies aims to improve productivity and operations efficiency across the construction industry.
