Launching a biomass power generation project fueled with rice husk in Ayeyarwaddy Region in Myanmar

Fujita Corporation (Headquarter: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. President: Yoji Okumura), a member of the Daiwa House Group and "Myanmar Agribusiness Public Corporation Limited" (hereinafter referred to "MAPCO") have established a new joint venture company (Myaung Mya FM Biomass Power Co., Ltd) to undertake various kinds of agricultural businesses in Myanmar, including a biomass power generation project fueled with rice husk.

An announcement ceremony was held on October 28 in 2017 with a number of 120 guests including Mr.Win Htay (Minister of Electrical Industry of Ayeyawaddy Region), Mr.Ba Hein (Minister of Agriculture and Environment of Ayeyawaddy Region), Mr. Kyaw Win and Mr.Thaung Win (Board of Directors of MAPCO), Mr.Yoshio Saeki (Operating Officer of Fujita Corporation).

Rice farming, one of main industries in Myanmar, is flourishing in Ayeyawaddy Region. However, this region is located at the terminal of the Myanmar electrical power system, and
problems with stable rice mill plant operation and quality assurance have been chronic due to power shortages. In addition, there are problems with illegal dumping of the husk from rice mill plants and various environmental problems that arise from toxic substances discharged from old-fashioned privately owned electrical power facilities fueled with rice husk.

Part of the funding for the project construction costs comes from "Financing Programme for Joint Crediting Mechanism Model Projects from 2016 to 2017" led Ministry of the Environment of Japan. By using rice husk produced from rice mill plants and an efficient power generation system, Fujita Corporation will contribute to forming low-carbon communities in Ayeyarwaddy Region by implementing biomass power generation business.

Fujita Corporation will continue to positively approach to power generation business using renewable energy and EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) business.
