Fujita Corporation Press Release
Released:08 Oct 2014

Fujita releases the "Masscon Watcher" - a system for simultaneously analyzing temperature and stress and reducing crack formation during concrete curing

Fujita Corporation (Headquarter: Tokyo Shibuya-ku, President: Takuji Ueda) developed "Masscon Watcher" (mass concrete watcher), a system for simultaneously analyzing fresh concrete's temperature and stresses in order to avoid cracking and achieve a high-quality structure.

"Masscon Watcher" wirelessly uploads data from an on-site hygrothermograph placed at the site, which analyzes the probability of cracking by assessing the temperature and stress of the fresh concrete. It then promptly implements the optimum cure in order to reduce crack occurrence.

First, the wireless hygrothermograph will be placed around the fresh concrete to monitor the curing environment. The data gathered is uploaded to a remote site office where the data is analyzed every 30-60 minutes using 3D FEM method to understand the temperature profile and crack probability for the concrete. The outer curing system (sprinkler, temperature and humidity control, pipe cooling and heating) will be controlled to provide a suitable treatment base on the analysis. The system enables more accurate and rapid construction management than a traditional method, and enables us to construct high quality concrete structure by reducing the risk of cracks caused by temperature stress.
